Gas is a flammable, explosive, colorless, odorless, and highly hazardous gas, mainly composed of methane (CH4). The hazards of gas generally include: when the concentration of gas in the air is too high and the oxygen content is low, it can cause suffocation of personnel; After the gas in the air reaches a certain value (5% -16%), it will burn and explode when exposed to fire; A gas explosion can produce a large amount of toxic gas, causing poisoning and injury to personnel. In addition, gas also has strong diffusion and permeability, and the composition of gas from different sources varies. For example, gas in coal mines may contain more impurities.

Although gas is hazardous, it plays an important role in various industries. In the field of energy, gas can be used as fuel to provide thermal energy for daily life and industrial production, such as as as automotive fuel, gas power generation, metal cutting and welding, etc; In the field of chemical engineering, we can utilize the chemical properties of gas to convert it into chemical products such as methanol and ethylene, providing raw materials for the manufacture of rubber, plastics, fibers, and other products; In the medical field, gas can also serve as a cryogen, which can preserve biological samples and be used for low-temperature surgery.

Coal mine gas is divided into high concentration gas and low concentration gas. Gas with a concentration higher than 25% is called high concentration gas, while gas with a concentration lower than 25% is called low concentration gas. For the treatment of low concentration gas, we should also adopt reasonable technologies. At present, the more mature technology is RTO process combined with gas power generation or waste heat utilization, which can effectively solve and improve gas (coalbed methane) accidents and safety production conditions in coal mines and other areas. With the continuous advancement of technology, the treatment of low concentration gas can be applied in more fields, which will bring greater economic benefits and social value.
